I remember learning about the London dogs – Norwegian people fact from Snoopy’s Do you Know book or some similar book. If it were the Snoopy book, then that book was published in the 1970′s.

(Norwegians total about 5 million as of 2011-2012, so there must be about 5 million dogs in London: which is one dog for each 2-3 Londoners [my estimate - I think the London population is about 12-14 million]).

And the riddle was definitely a brain-stretcher!

What is one thing you didn’t know about that you learn this term?

A very reflective piece about an important part of Japanese culture and history.

“If we didn’t have the bombings, we might still be at war”, and I remember civil wars which went on as long or longer than World War II.

Some Japanese soldiers, though, thought they were still fighting. The last to surrender did so in about 1980.

One of my favourite books is called Brighter than a thousand suns and it discusses Hiroshima and Nagasaki fairly extensively from a scientific point of view.

Just a few points: were the people really burnt in/on the school oval?

Yes, they were citizens, but they were also civilians (as opposed to members of the military or the monarchy – Hirohito might have had a summer house in Hiroshima…). A very ethical thought here.

Hopefully the cuts, burns and wounds did not get infected!
